Current vacancies

  • Mechanical Technician

    You will be responsible for the mechanical assembly side of projects, helping to build complex precision mechanisms.

    • Assemble fine mechanical instruments, often for use in an Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) environment.
    • Work as part of a team led by a project scientist.
    • You have served a recognised apprenticeship and hold an HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
    • UHV training will be available.
    • Some UK and international travel.

    Salary on application, dependent on experience.

  • Project Scientist / Engineer

    You will typically design precision optical mechanisms for use within a UHV environment, often subjected to high heat loads.

    • Take a project from enquiry through to final design, manufacture and commissioning.
    • Run factory acceptance testing using a wide range of metrology instruments.
    • You hold an MSc or PhD, preferably in experimental physics or a closely related physical science.
    • You have experience of 2D & 3D design. We use SolidWorks, and formal training will be given.
    • Short periods of work overseas.

    Salary on application, dependent on experience. Experience of particle accelerator technologies is welcome but not required.
