Focusing Optics

Two ways to focus the beam: dynamically figured KB mirrors, and the F-Switch compound refractive lens system.

New

F-Switch CRL1

A fast compound refractive lens system with a four-axis manipulator. Unlike a transfocator, every lens in the array can be selected on its own.

  • Built under licence from Diamond Light Source.
  • 120 positions in the array, each individually selectable.
  • Very fine adjustment of the focal spot and focal length.
  • Operates in vacuum and requires just two actuators.
  • Filters or reference foils can be used in some positions in the array.
Lenses
2D lenses, available from RX Optics, each mounted in a disk 2mm thick, 12mm diameter

Small KB Mirror System2

The mirror shape is figured dynamically by applying two adjustable moments to a trapezoidal mirror, giving a close approximation to the ideal focusing ellipse.

  • Highly repeatable sub-µm focused spot size.
  • High stability dynamically figured mirror with sub-µrad slope error.
  • Mirror lengths 170mm - 320mm.
  • Multiple mirror coatings (Silicon, Rhodium, Platinum).
  • Ultra-high vacuum, high vacuum, low vacuum and helium variants.
Pitch angle
±25mrad range, 1.07μrad resolution (320mm mirror)
Height
±4mm range, 0.36μm resolution
Translation
10mm, used for mirror stripe exchange
