Design, build, test and support

Our staff have decades of combined experience in the design, planning and construction of instrumentation for scientific facilities. You can use that at any stage of a project.

Service 1

Design & Analysis

A beamline design service, from the first conceptual layout to the detailed design of each component.

  • Full beamline conceptual layout.
  • Detailed design of beamline components.
  • Heat load calculations and power analysis.
  • FEA analysis of heat-loaded components to maximise cooling efficiency.
  • Optical and Bremsstrahlung ray tracing.
  • Beam diagnostic schemes, vacuum schemes and budgetary estimations.

Service 2

Assembly & Testing

Machined components and vacuum vessels come from approved UK precision engineering suppliers. Assembly and testing happen in our own facilities, and you review the test reports before anything ships.

  • Class 10000 clean assembly areas for ultra high vacuum components and assemblies.
  • UHV cleaning, with ultrasonic cleaning, rinse and bake facilities, and two bake-out rigs fitted with MKS RGA heads (0-200amu).
  • Two large 3 tonne granite inspection benches and two anti-vibration Newport breadboard tables.
  • Newport laser autocollimators for dynamic measurement with µrad (0.2 arcsec) resolution.
  • Portable CMM Faro arm with Delcam Power Inspect software.
  • Custom laser quad diode hardware for full characterisation of scanning DCM systems.

Post Sales Support

Synchrotrons are an extreme working environment, and demanding cycles of operation put strain on the very best instruments.

  • Post-warranty field support for our clients.
  • Instruments are thoroughly tested at IDT before delivery.
  • Tested again as part of site acceptance tests.
  • When a call-out is needed, we respond promptly to keep downtime to a minimum.
